People Like Us review

It's a strange show in the sense that it would have worked better as a rom com, but it wasn't. I don't really know what the point of the movie was but it was at the very least brisk in pace and had relatively decent acting all-around.

Training Day review

Very solid acting all-around. Nice to see both leads slowly break down over the course of the movie. Suspenseful and not a boring minute.

17 Again review

Whilst just a shade cheesy and typical, this movie made me feel good in that simplistic way. If for nothing else, this movie is great for some lighthearted fun. Don't think too much about everything and it should be fine.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead review

A little slow-moving, but was interesting to see how some small things slowly escalated to bigger things. Acting was good all-around, plot was realistic but could have been paced a little faster. Not a typical entertaining thriller for sure, but still one worth the watch.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit review

It started out relatively intriguing and smart, but eventually dawdled on to a rather uninspired ending. It was refreshing to have an espionage movie to not be inundated with action scenes and such, but perhaps the balance was tilted too much towards mental leaps in logic on the protagonist's part. Personally I still loved it, but I have a healthy affection for both Chris Pine and Keira Knightley thus I may be a tad biased.

In the Mood for Love review

Such great mise-en-scene, such great acting and the whole movie felt so poignant. It feels like you're standing on the precipice of a great love story, but never really found the courage to jump. When you're done with the movie, you're left with the slight regretful feeling of "what if".

Getaway review

This movie, to sum it up simply, was one car chase too many. While the car chases were a tad hard to follow at times, having the feel of watching a 5 year old play Crazy Taxi, the storyline was basically spoonfed to the audience. At no point did I need to even use a bit of thinking to ponder about the story; at no point did Ethan Hawke's character need to use any bit of thinking either because Selena Gomez's character will TELL YOU EVERYTHING. Problem? She knows how to solve it. Why are they doing this to them? She knows why. How are they doing it? She knows why. Cars? She knows what. It's a little insulting and thus got extremely boring towards the end. Not worth a watch unless you really really like car chases, in which case this is like a crazy montage which I guess could be enjoyable.

New York, I Love You review

While the individual filmlets(?) were mildly intriguing and vaguely entertaining, the film lacked a sense of unity and seemed to have little relation from one scene to the other apart from the fact that they all took place in New York.

Daybreakers review

Very interesting concept and take on the vampire genre. However, it suffers from bad execution, editing that was not tight enough and at times pretty bad product placement (the car, always the car). Acting was spotty for some of the minor characters. The sets were a toss-up between beautiful and cheesy so that was a tad of a waste. Overall probably worth watching if only for food for thought.

Before Midnight review

Possibly the most realistic of the trilogy. It's a pretty amazing feat to manage to keep the viewer intrigued despite only having the conversations of the main characters as the driving point of the whole movie. Loved the trilogy as a whole, but Sunset was a bit lacking by itself.
